Presidential Run-off

Volodimir Zelensky defeated Petro Poroshenko in a landslide after the two locked places on an April 21st final election for Ukraine’s presidency. Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister, oil magnate and populist, appears to have polled a full four points behind incumbent Petro Poroshenko, who came in over ten points behind comedian Volodimir Zelensky in the preliminary run.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to train its military at a feverish pace. Russian exercises in 2019 come in the wake of a small NATO exercise in Georgia, a new US base in Poland and UK response to Russian air incursions. No joke…

  1. A joint letter of congratulations was issued by both Tusk and Jean Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission. The European Union (EU) leaders stated that they hoped Zelensky’s victory would speed up the implementation of the remaining parts of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area .
